“RORY! RORY! RORY!” I mean… what else can you say. Despite 19 players scoring under 70 today, Rory McIlroy stole the show with a unreal score of -7 in the second round to take a pretty commanding – and Masters first – 6 stroke lead going into the weekend. In what looked to me like he was just trying to swing the club to get through the day quickly, regardless of a chance to take a bigger lead, he still kept making every shot with ease.

Patrick Reed and Sam Burns both played well enough to sit 6 strokes back but so did a large majority of the field. It is just hard to find a good story line for anyone else to write about considering the greatness that followed them all day. I could talk about all the usual players we’d expect to be talking about – ok fine, cheap dig at DeChambeau… – and I can only imagine how many peoples’ pool entries may have been sent for a loop today! But hey, that’s the Masters for you right?
Despite the leaderboard, this isn’t over until it’s over and while 6 strokes is a lot, it is not unsurmountable. Here’s hoping for an exciting finish, whether its putting a green jacket on himself, or someone else.
Good luck to everyone still in the hunt this weekend and will keep you all posted! Cheap plug to check out the home page to remind you about the Expensive Taste golf tournament.
